Folktales, Facts, and History: Many superstitions surround the elder plant including that an elder trimmed into a cross is to be planted on the grave of a newly deceased person. If the it blossoms then the person beneath it is happy. Also, in the wild some animals recognize it as a medicine and will eat it to cure themselves. This practice is known as zoopharmocognosy. |
